Nello scrivere, preparare e girare un film ho un’unica certezza: ogni decisione presa non potrà mai piacere a tutti. Ed è una certezza che mi rende leggero e libero come la piuma di Forrest Gump. Quello che conta, a quel punto, è solo la qualità del mio lavoro.

In writing, preparing, and shooting a film, I’m certain of one thing: I can’t please everyone with each decision I make. This certainty makes me feel free and easy, like the floating feather in Forrest Gump. So, what counts, is only the quality of my work.

Sul set cerco sempre di dare spazio all’attore, vivere con lui, capire insieme le varie possibilità che offre una scena. Adoro l’improvvisazione che apre la mente e il cuore. Il resto è noia, muffa ed esteriorità di una recitazione senz’anima: il trionfo della mediocrità.

On the set I always try to give space to the actor, live with him, understand together the various possibilities that a scene offers. I love improvisation that opens the mind and the heart. The rest is boredom, mold and exteriority of soulless acting: the triumph of mediocrity.

Quello che ho fatto è dietro di me, perché mai dovrei voltarmi per guardarlo? Quello che mi attende è una scialuppa che spuntando dalla nebbia mi porterà altrove, in una nuova dimensione senza padroni e lacché.

What I have done is behind me, why would I ever turn around to look at it? What awaits me is a lifeboat that emerging from the fog will take me elsewhere, to a new dimension without masters and lackeys.
